Community Rail Corridor Reclamation Plan
A Co-operative Proposal to Establish a Safe, Ecologically Sound Urban Rail Corridor
In 2008, the condition of Birge
Park and the adjoining CN rail lines was an issue that demanded attention. After a cleanup of Birge park, the greater problem of the
condition of the land beyond the park fence remained. This land was being used for illegal dumping, drug use, prostitution and
shelter for the homeless. |

The proposal, linked below, was put forward by LANA in the hope of
providing a blueprint for a co-operative, self-sustaining solution. With a diverse complement of participants, it stands as an example of what can be accomplished in organizing such a project with clarity of vision and sensitivity to the unique positions of the stakeholders. The successful implementation of this plan remains a benchmark for LANA and other neighbourhood groups.
